A pensioner is fighting for his life after being attacked outside his home last weekend.
The 84-year-old suffered serious head and facial injuries in the assault on Sunday evening.
Gruesome pictures released by local police show the elderly man with a broken nose, black eye, numerous deep cuts and blood spattered all over his shirt, pants and hands.
He had left his home at roughly 7pm to investigate a disturbance nearby when he was set upon. Police believe a weapon was used.
The attack happened in Cannington, in Perth’s southern suburbs.

Acting Detective Sergeant Alexandra Hill said a weapon was used in the ‘cowardly, disgusting and appalling act’.
“This is an 84-year-old man who’s lived in this suburb for 40 years … and he’s been brutally assaulted in his front yard,” she told Perth Now.
“They are horrific, horrific injuries that this man has sustained to his face.”
The man was found by police before being taken to Royal Perth Hospital by ambulance where he is awaiting surgery in intensive care.
He is in a critical condition.
Det Sgt Hill said there appeared to be no motive behind the brutal bashing.

Two white men aged between 25 and 35 have been identified as people of interest by police.
The victim’s vehicle, which was left with a smashed window and bloodstains, is being used in the police investigation.
There were at least five other reports of damage and disturbance on the night of the man’s assault.
Detectives have launched an investigation into the incident and urged anyone who was in the area or has CCTV or dashcam footage of the assault to come forward.
