Experts have identified a gigantic stone framework concealed beneath Bermuda that is “unlike anything else on the globe,” intensifying the fascination surrounding this puzzling region.

Last eruption may have injected molten rock into crust, lifting island 500 metres

The newly identified structure implies that the latest eruption introduced molten stone into the crust, where it solidified into a raft and elevated the island 500 metres (1,640 ft) above sea level.

Scientists from Carnegie Science monitored the movement of robust but distant seismic events through the rock 31 miles (50km) beneath the island to achieve this pivotal discovery.

Dr. William Frazer, a seismologist at Carnegie Science, informed Live Science, “Generally, one finds the base of the oceanic crust followed by the mantle. However, at Bermuda, an additional stratum exists beneath the crust, within the tectonic plate supporting Bermuda.”

For earth scientists, this finding could signify a substantial stride toward deciphering Bermuda’s central enigma: the reason for its oceanic swell. While island chains such as Hawaii typically emerge due to volcanic activity above mantle plumes, comprehending Bermuda’s unusual location may provide insights into more commonplace and extreme processes occurring on Earth.

The Bermuda Triangle, situated between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda, is notorious for its history of inexplicable disappearances of ships and planes, which has sparked much otherworldly conjecture. Dr. Simon Boxall, an oceanographer from the University of Southampton, proposes that the Bermuda Triangle’s record of disappearances stems from “rogue waves,” also known as extreme storm waves.
