A householder has been compelled to present an odd “courteous announcement” in their window, asking residents to abstain from alerting law enforcement to a seeming problem inside their abode.
The note was noticed by a passerby, who felt urged to photograph it and upload it to Reddit due to bafflement. “Please take note!” it stated. “Yes, I am dealing with a fly infestation! The situation is being addressed!” Sure enough, many deceased flies were evident surrounding the sign.

The occupant proceeded to implore: “Please refrain from contacting the police! They have come twice to perform a well-being check. It is not fair to them or myself. There is no one deceased or injured on the premises.”
The communication concluded: “Should you have any misgivings, kindly knock on the door or leave a note including your phone number, so I can converse with you and reassure you. Many thanks.”

Uploading a picture of the notice online, the Redditor penned: “The fly covering the M at the end is just perfect.” They mentioned that the dwelling is situated in Exeter, Devon.

Several Reddit users responded that they were puzzled, with one questioning: “I believe that in the duration it required to compose that announcement, print it out (and perhaps laminate it? ) and position it on the window, the resident could’ve fiercely combatted the flies with some Raid [fly spray].

“However, I’ve also experienced troubles with flies, and if it’s this severe, I would speculate there is decaying food (or a decomposing animal carcass) or something of the sort present inside the building. Might even necessitate professional assistance at this point.”
A different person suggested a possible explanation: “There are flora that entice them; my parents possessed a caravan in the Lake District that was swarming with them. Dad was speaking with the neighbour when they noticed the bush was moving. It comprised thousands of flies; the neighbour uprooted the plant and the issue ceased.”
A further individual contributed: “Cat food can spoil extremely rapidly in warmer climates, virtually an hour or two is all it requires to witness visible eggs developing. My mum suffered a bad spell and was unable to empty her kitchen bin containing some leftover Felix. In just a couple of days, it appeared as though every fly in town had relocated there, and they were remarkably challenging to eradicate even after I’d boiled, bleached, and sprayed fly killer like crazy.”

While a fourth Reddit user recounted a comparable instance: “We had persistent flies appearing in our living room, and the sole explanation was the chimney.
“Had it cleaned, and the technician removed two bin bags’ worth of bird’s nests, including at least six deceased pigeons. We have a cowl atop the chimney, so it’s no longer a concern, but goodness me.”
Others who had observed the announcement in person also shared their comments, meanwhile. One asserted: “Respect to Exeter! However, it’s not being taken care of; that sign has been present for months.”
Another felt empathy: “Yes, I remember this from Exeter as well. They had a cat in the window too, poor thing.”
And a separate individual claimed: “Can verify its been up for some time, I passed by this house in August.”
