A woman in Florida commenced a relationship with her deceased mother’s partner, later marrying him, before fatally stabbing him and asserting it was an act of self-defense.
Danielle Redlick confessed to killing her spouse, and former stepfather, Michael Redlick, 65, on January 11, 2019. Her daughter has since stated Danielle possesses a “remarkable facade” and voiced concerns about her brother’s well-being.

Danielle, then 22, became romantically involved with Michael, 39, alleging they grew close after her mother’s passing from “aggressive breast cancer,” according to Law and Crime.
Michael commenced visiting the establishment where Danielle was employed following the loss of her mother, and they began spending time in each other’s company.
She stated: “I started to relish it. He possessed a certain worldliness and intelligence, so these things were novel and stimulating for me. Eventually, it developed into a romantic connection.”

However, the relationship significantly declined, culminating in Danielle fatally stabbing her former stepfather, who was now her husband, as reported by the Mirror US.

Danielle’s account of Michael’s demise proved to be inconsistent. She initially informed the 911 operator that she suspected her husband had experienced a cardiac arrest at their Orange County home.
Having avoided a conviction for second-degree murder, she received a sentence of one year’s probation for evidence tampering, after cleaning the area where she had stabbed him.
Danielle’s adult daughter, Jadyn, implored prosecutors to institute a no-contact order to safeguard herself and her brother from their mother. The letter indicated: “You may all be deceived by the remarkable facade this woman displays to you, but I am not. My father didn’t escape in time, and I am profoundly concerned for my brother. Judge, please implement some form of stipulation preventing Danielle from approaching myself and Sawyer.”

Danielle asserts that Michael was physically abusive and questioned her, “aren’t you afraid to be home alone with me without the kids?”.
The prosecution argued that Danielle was on a dating website while her husband was deceased on the floor. She claimed she believed Michael had survived the stabbing, prosecutor Sean Wiggins highlighted. Nonetheless, she neglected to notify anyone or attempt any life-saving measures. The state asserted that Michael succumbed to blood loss.
Danielle then attempted suicide 11 hours following the killing, and at that point, she contacted 999. Jadyn testified during the trial that her mother was “extremely toxic, highly manipulative,” and the primary source of toxicity within the relationship.
Danielle was granted credit for the time she had already served in custody, leading to her release in 2022, with her defense presenting letters on her behalf from ministry volunteers at the local correctional facility.
