You’re opening tins wrong – you don’t actually need opener

If you haven’t got a tin opener at home, there’s no need to worry. There’s a simple way you can pry open your canned food.

It can be hard to open tinned food – especially when you don’t have an tin opener.

Without this nifty tool, many people think they’re heading for culinary disaster. But, it turns out, it’s not quite the case.

A cooking whizz recently took to TikTok to share a simple way to pry open cans by using something that everyone has in their home. It turns out all you need is a simple spoon.

In the clever clip, woodsboundoutdoors showed you can use a spoon to do the job. According to the content creator, all you need to do is grind the edge of the ridge with it.

As long you add a lot of pressure he said it “won’t take long at all” before it starts to pucture the top of the can. From here, all you need to do is pry it open.

Since the clip was shared, people have been left totally mindblown. Hundreds of people were stunned that they’ve never heard of the nifty method before.

One person said: “I wish I knew this when I had no can opener, and opened a can of beans with a razor blade. That was not fun.”

Another wrote: “Whaat? Excellent.” A third replied:”That’s good to know.” Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “Thanks. I didn’t know this.”

Some weren’t so convinced though, and said they always have a can opener to hand. They just couldn’t get on-board with the trick that seemed a lot of effort to pull off for some.

Not to mention, some worried they wouldn’t be able to push down hard enough to make it work.

One chimed in with: “Won’t tiny shavings get into the can?” Another wrote: “I always use a knife if I don’t have a can opener.”

A third suggested: “I swear I’ve tried this, and I’m either weak, or I’m doing it wrong.”

The method has left many torn, but it sure is a clever trick if you ever find yourself without a tin opener. After all, who knows what we’d try in a desperate moment of need?

Since it was shared, the video has been viewed thousands of times, and people were pretty impressed with it. Anything is worth a try when you’re stuck, isn’t it?

If you’re going to give it a whirl, just be super careful when doing so!
