Pals baffled after finding Olympic torch in unexpected place

A lad, who posts online as @younisecret, was left baffled when he and his friend found a discarded Olympic torch – but now they don’t know what to do with it

The Olympic torch is an important symbol of unity for any country hosting the international sporting event.

It travels around the country before igniting the flame at the opening ceremony and is uniquely designed for each games. This year, the Paris 2024 Games chose to work with French designer Mathieu Lehanneur to create a water-inspired design.

But back in 2012, London went with a golden torch designed by designers BarberOsgerby, which was perforated by 8000 circular holes representing each of the torch-bearers to take part in the relay. There’s no way you couldn’t spot it from a mile away — even in the most unexpected of places.

One bloke was recently left baffled when he and his pal found a London torch at a train station in Wandsworth Common, London.

In a video, which has gained more than 15,000 likes, the lad who posts as @younisecrets, said: “Guys, I was just standing on this platform and I saw this. I thought it was part of the bench at first, but tell me this isn’t what I think it is, bro.”

He then showed the London Olympics logo on the side before panning the camera around to show the empty platform. His pal added: “Oh my God, it’s like a f*****g official one.”

To which, he replied: “Is it real? What do we do? Literally, no one’s here,” before adding in the caption: “Wot do we do with this SEND HELP.”

TikTok users have been left stunned over the find as some joked that they will have to organise the next Olympics because they found it. One user joked: “I think that means you’re now hosting the next Olympics, so good luck with that!”

Another added: “Surely you’ve got to keep that,” as a third quipped: “I think this is an original experience.” Meanwhile, someone else penned: “I’ve been obsessed with the London Olympic torch since I was a kid. Why does this s*** never happen to me?”

Representatives for the Olympics have been contacted for a comment.
