Woman takes 85-year old gran on roller coaster – she wasn’t impressed

Three Australian siblings say their 85-year old grandma ‘begged’ them to let to her join in their fun on an American roller coaster – but she wished she hadn’t.

August 16 marks National Roller Coaster Day and to celebrate the occasion we’ve unearthed hilarious footage of an 85-year old being subjected to an American theme park, which resulted in her “roasting” her granddaughter.

The thrill-seeking OAP wasn’t affected by the loops and bends of the track, however – she was more concerned by the fact she had got wet. In a clip shared to TikTok, sibling musicians @WeAreSheppard documented granny Baba’s adventure, describing how she “begged” to join in their fun.

Viewed by 1.2 million TikTok users, Baba is seen laughing with her three grandchildren as the ride begins inside as it moves through water at a steady pace. Her smile soon made way for a look of fear though, as the Sheppards headed outdoors in their cart up a steep slope.

“I can’t fall out can I?” asks Baba pensively as she waves to onlookers on the ground. Avoiding the question, the trio instead embark on a chorus of, “Let’s go, Baba” as the coaster reaches its summit. “Brace yourself,” warns one of Baba’s relatives as they rocket downwards at high speed worrying about her neck.

More twists and turns follow as Baba grips on for dear life, before the ride concludes splashing into the flume where it began. The look on her face said it all as she was left soaked to the skin.

“She is braver than me,” one TikTok user declared in response to the clip. Saluting her courage, a second added: “I went on that and thought I was going to die!”

A third penned: “Omg how did she do it? I screamed so hard on that last drop.” Whilst a fourth person recalled: “That ride traumatised me as a kid. My parents told me it was a slow ride and it didn’t have a drop. I never trusted them again.”

Whilst the origins of National Roller Coaster Day are unclear, according to Days of the Year the most widely believed theory relates to August 16, 1898. It was on this day that the very first patent for a rollercoaster ride was issued by Edwin Prescott.

The web site adds: “The date has been marked by fairgrounds and fans of rollercoasters all over the world since the eighties.”

However, it is believed the oldest form of rollercoasters date back to the 17th century in the Russian Mountains – a series of hills of ice that were specially constructed in what is now known as Saint Petersburg.
