Charity shopper finds item worth £1,000 – you might own one

A man was left stunned when his brother shared photos of the bargain he’d found in a charity shop – paying less than £4 for an item worth more than £1,000.

A man snagged a charity shop gem for less than £4 – and it’s worth more than £1,000.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the fortunate buyer’s sibling showcased the bargain – complete with a $4.99 (£3.81) price sticker. He wrote: “My brother just texted me this. What a find.”

The tag revealed the item was sourced from Goodwill – a network of charity shops in the US and Canada known for selling second-hand goods.

The pictures show an office chair that appears quite ordinary at first glance, likely the reason Goodwill offered it at such a low price. However, one photo reveals the “Herman Miller” brand inscribed on the back.

Herman Miller is a renowned American firm specialising in bespoke office furniture. It is famed for creating the office cubicle in 1968, and today its products are sold worldwide.

And these items come with a hefty price tag. A chair like the one featured in the X post retails for £1,149 on Herman Miller’s UK website. “Its innovative design and support for a range of postures, activities and body types,” the company says.

Users on X were astounded by the discovery, with one commenting: “Bro $5 for a $1000 chair is the craziest s**t I ever seen.” Another user half-jokingly remarked: “Congrats and f**k you.”

Others shared their own experiences of finding Herman Miller office chairs at bargain prices – clearly, not everyone realises how much their chairs could be worth when doing a clear out.
