Restaurant sparks fury after charging customers more if they share food

A customer shared a photo of the restaurant’s terms and conditions from the menu, which states that all diners are required to order their own main course.

A restaurant has been reportedly blasted for adding a massive charge onto the bill if customers share food. The incident was shared by a customer on the social media forum Reddit.

The customer shared their experience after visiting an eatery in Florida, US.

They shared a photo of the restaurant’s terms and conditions from the menu, which states that all diners are required to order their own main course, reports Ladbible

Additionally, there’s an extra charge for those who choose a starter as their main course. If customers decide to share an entrée, they’ll face a $27 (£20) fee per person.

Therefore, if one person is footing the bill, they’ll need to pay an additional £40.

The rules read: “Every seated guest is expected to order an entree-priced item. An upcharge of $27 (£20) per person will be added if an entree is split.

“Appetizers are priced to accompany an entree. Single appetizers ordered as a main course will be priced $16 (£12) higher, and include a complementary house salad, bread service, and unlimited accommodations.

“Appetizer portions of pasta ordered in addition to an entree are generally priced $24 (£18) less than the corresponding full portion price.

“If you have concerns about the price of an item, please enquire before ordering. By placing an order, each guest agrees to the terms and conditions of services as stated above.”

After taking a look at the rules, Reddit users were “surprised anybody eats there”.

One person commented: “Many of my clients are wealthy individuals. What I’ve learned by working with them is their priority when seeking a product or service is professionalism, quality consultation and satisfying their problems or goals.

“What they don’t want is someone patronising them and speaking ‘down’ to them. This menu is doing both.”

A second added: “Also – how expensive are entrees that they charge $27 per person if you share it?

“Given that it takes two to share, that is $54 and I doubt that any entree is worth that much. So you might as well order two and just yeet the second one across the restaurant into the trash.”

While a third penned: “Yikes. Pretty hard to enjoy the hospitality when there’s probably a rule for that too.”
