Four Clear Signs Your Cat Loves You, Even If She Pretends She Doesn't

A cat owner has shared four signs that your pet has chosen you as their “favorite,” including some behaviors that often go unnoticed.

Adopting a kitten can be a joyful but also unpredictable experience, as it can be difficult to determine whether your cat will be affectionate or prefer to watch you from afar. Knowing whether your cat truly loves you can be difficult due to their varied personalities.

However, one pet owner has shared four obvious ways cats show affection on TikTok, some of which can easily slip under the radar. User @oreoandpumpkinspice revealed “four signs your cat has chosen you as their most important person” in their video, starting with “they can’t take their eyes off you.”

This behavior is often misinterpreted as owners assume their cat is giving them a “mean look,” when in reality, they’re probably just admiring you from a distance. The video explains: “If your cat keeps staring at you while you’re doing mundane things like making coffee or checking your phone, they’re not just bored. This look means they’re watching you closely and are genuinely interested in what you’re doing.”

The next sign is more obvious, as stated in the video: “They choose your lap to rest on.” Cats are very selective about the laps they choose to rest on, so if they choose yours, it’s a clear sign that they feel safe with you.

The video also mentions that if your cat nudges you with her head, it's her way of saying, “You're mine.” She's marking you with her scent, declaring you part of her world.

If your cat consistently chooses you over other family members, it's a sure sign that you've earned the title of her most beloved companion. By highlighting this behavior, the video simply says, “When there are other people around and your cat still gravitates toward you, it's no coincidence.”

It goes on to say, “They've decided that you're their number one person. The one they feel most comfortable with.”

Cat owners flooded the comments section with their stories, backing up the claims made in the video.

One user noted: “My large wild ginger cat would always approach the women in the room and give them his love.”

Another noted that his cat's devotion varied depending on the time of day: “Theon prefers me when we are awake and my wife when we are asleep.”

Other users noted their pets' unique preferences, with one saying, “My cat loves me the most but we live alone, I just pay her bills,” while another expressed confusion: “My cat only comes to me, not to my wife or son, only to me, I don't understand it.”

More anecdotes followed, illustrating the bond between cats and their beloved humans. One commenter said, “My rescue cat chose me over me and my daughter. We already had two cats when we brought our rescue cat home.”

Finally, another person emphasized that cats' displays of affection can sometimes be dispassionate: “My cat does all of these things, and I'm the favorite of them all, but I have to say she does pretty much the same thing to my husband, especially nudging him with her head.”
