Actor and comedian Kevin James recently discussed the demanding aspects of performing on tour.
While appearing on Theo Von’s podcast, “This Past Weekend,” James recounted a comedy journey early in his career that took an unforeseen direction.
He mentioned he had driven eight hours for a stand-up performance that lasted one evening and provided minimal compensation — especially when travel costs were considered.
Drained from the journey, James checked into what he characterized as a “low-quality motel-type place.”
His intention was to get a brief rest before the performance.

“I pull the covers back because I was tired. Just drove for eight hours,” he stated.
And, he continued — “there was a cockroach in the blanket.”
James indicated he didn’t request another room.
“I just put the blanket back, honestly,” he remarked. “I went to the show. I just remained in my vehicle in the parking area until it was time.”
Following the completion of his act, he came to another decision.
“I did the show, then drove eight hours back,” he explained. “I couldn’t stay with a cockroach, no way.”

“There exist some truly awful places,” James commented.
Although he chose to leave the room immediately under the circumstances he described, pest specialists recommend travelers who come across a cockroach take specific measures.
Firstly, “to assist in minimizing pest risks upon arrival, keep your belongings elevated and away from soft surfaces — the bathroom is a good place to keep luggage, especially inside the bathtub — as you examine the room for indications of pest presence,” Shannon Sked, the national technical director at Orkin, informed Fox News Digital.
The pest management business has its main office in Atlanta.
“Hotels are limited to addressing problems that they’re aware of.”
Sked mentioned that typical hotel pests like cockroaches and bedbugs are “adept hitchhikers” — and checking a room before unpacking can prevent their migration through luggage.
Next, “if you spot either a cockroach or a bedbug, alert the front desk immediately,” she advised.

He is currently featured in the recent film “Solo Mio,” which also includes Jonathan Roumie.
The movie is currently playing in theaters.
