No fish in the history of mankind – or, we suppose, in the history of fish – has looked as impressive as this little one caught in Thailand.
Fishermen in Nakhon Pathom, about 30 miles west of Bangkok, caught the big-lipped tilapia on January 9.
TikTok user @klanarongsepklang posted a video of the fish with swollen lips, which has garnered more than 49,000 likes.
The recording contains laughter and discussions about fish.
“Being a fish can be wonderful,” he wrote in the caption of the video.
He noted that the fish's “Mazda lips” are a beauty trend in Thailand, where people use a combination of surgical procedures and filler injections to create a lip shape that resembles the Mazda logo.

One of the fishermen shared that the crew was “confused” by the catch and eventually released the fish.
Another joked that the big tilapia lips are what many celebrities spend thousands and countless hours on operating tables to achieve.
“The fish received treatment without any expenses. She didn't need a clinic like these American celebrities,” he added.
Anglers speculate that poor water quality may be the cause, which has given the fish lips similar to “Beverly Hills lips.”
The area where the fish was caught may have high levels of nitrites, a chemical that can clog the fish's blood vessels and cause suffocation. Ammonia, which can damage the fish's insides or scales, may also be the culprit.

If this is the case, then a fish with lips similar to a trout's could have been stressed and developed an infection, causing the lips to swell.
