More than 50% of UK adults have used a basic coin toss to resolve arguments at home—from working out who handles tasks around the house to choosing what to eat for dinner. A fresh survey of 2,000 individuals shows that for many, the dependable penny is still the favored method for resolving disagreements and minor issues.
While a third of individuals typically use a coin flip to determine the starting player in a game or activity, it’s also frequently employed to settle daily household debates, such as who washes the dishes, who empties the trash, or who takes the dog for a walk.

Regarding the choice, ‘Heads’ is significantly more popular, with 44% consistently choosing it, compared to only 19% who routinely select ‘Tails’. However, almost a third (31%) vary their selection depending on their frame of mind.
A quarter of British people admitted they secretly wish the coin comes up the ‘incorrect’ way. This is because the ‘wrong’ result helps to validate their initial desire.
The research was commissioned by Foxy, which collaborated with Denise Van Outen and Duncan James who faced a series of challenges where a coin flip determined their destiny.

The survey revealed that 49% believe a coin toss is an impartial way to resolve a disagreement. Although 37% of those who flipped a coin to reach a consensus ultimately disagreed with the outcome.

If they were unhappy with the result, 39% will simply flip it again until they achieve the desired outcome.
