A Girl Scout troop in New Jersey discovered significant demand for their cookies when selling in front of a cannabis store, but this decision may have placed the group in a tricky situation with the organization’s higher-ups.
The troop, whose name has remained private, initially sold cookies in February outside of Daylite Cannabis located in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
Despite the favorable outcome of the initial sales, the troop has no plans to return to the dispensary, as stated by the owner to Fox News Digital on Friday.
This alliance took advantage of cravings caused by cannabis use. It swiftly garnered interest both online and within the local press, and the dispensary’s owner, holding proper licensing, declared it a triumph that enhanced foot traffic for the cookie stand and the store itself.
“When you consume cannabis, you’re going to feel peckish,” Daylite Cannabis proprietor Steve Cassidy previously disclosed to NJ.com.
“The connection between snacks and cannabis is undeniable, and the fact that we no longer have to pretend otherwise is really remarkable.”

Recreational cannabis became sanctioned in New Jersey back in 2022. As of now, the state boasts over 200 recreational dispensaries, along with medical and hybrid establishments, according to data from the New Jersey State Information System, as reported by NJ.com.
“I doubt an event like this would have occurred five years ago,” Cassidy remarked.
In 2024, this concept was turned down by the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey, which is the regional body in charge of overseeing local troops, Cassidy indicated.
However, information suggests that this year, one troop received authorization to conduct sales outside the dispensary on an experimental basis.
“The Girl Scouts regularly set up shop at supermarkets and various other large public venues,” Cassidy mentioned. “They cater to the community and our neighbors, which is precisely who our store also serves.”

He mentioned that the cookie sales performed so well the previous month that a number of patrons actually paid a visit to the Girl Scouts’ stand prior to entering the cannabis outlet.
Following the news gaining traction nationally, Cassidy hinted that the arrangement might have generated discord inside the organization.
“They ought to receive their entrepreneur badge.”
“It was about contributing to the community,” Cassidy communicated to The Independent. “It is certainly not our intention for the local Girl Scout troop to face repercussions.”
Individuals on social media held mixed opinions regarding this development, even though many were in support of the troop.

Fox News Digital has contacted both Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey for a statement on the matter.
A post on the dispensary’s Facebook profile on Friday stated, “We felt privileged to host a local troop outside Daylite recently. Giving our support to our community — particularly the young business leaders — is an endeavor we hold very dear as a business that is locally based and family-run.”

“Presently, there are no plans for the troop’s return to the store,” Cassidy shared with Fox News Digital.
“We would be extremely glad to have them back, and I am certain our customers would be overjoyed as well.”
Cassidy stated the dispensary has a history of teaming up with community organizations and intends to continue in that fashion.
A parallel controversy emerged in 2018 when a Girl Scout from San Diego was under scrutiny after having been photographed selling cookies in front of a cannabis dispensary, according to The Associated Press.
Council representatives at the time conveyed that sales in a business-oriented zone were not permitted, and they were investigating whether any regulations had been breached, specifying that responses would be determined on a case-by-case basis.
