Man Claims He Was Shot By Dog While Lying In Bed

The Memphis man was “relaxing/chatting” in bed when the incident occurred.

A man was shot in the leg while in bed with his girlfriend. He claims his pet dog pulled the trigger.

Gerald Kirkwood, of Memphis, Tennessee, was “chilling/chatting” with a stranger in his bedroom around 4 a.m. Monday when his dog Oreo decided to jump on the bed.

One-year-old pit bull terrier Oreo was so excited to enter the bedroom that he reportedly stepped on a shotgun lying on the floor and got his paw caught in the trigger guard, causing it to go off.

Kirkwood suffered a bullet wound and a laceration to his left thigh and was given first aid by paramedics at the scene.

He was later taken to hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

According to information, his girlfriend left the scene before the ambulance arrived, taking the gun with her.

“A strange incident occurred: the dog jumped up and caused a gunshot,” said the victim's friend.
