High-ranking Catholic exorcists have urged Pope Leo XIV to recruit more clerics adept at battling demons, amidst claims of a global surge in occult and Satan-worshipping behaviours.
Representatives from the International Association of Exorcists (AIE) engaged with the Pontiff earlier this month to deliver a report alerting to rising cases linked to occultism and devil worship.

The AIE is recommending that every Catholic diocese internationally should have at least one trained exorcist available to recognize and handle intricate situations.
They are also requesting enhanced instruction, clearer direction for incoming bishops, and firm guidelines for deciding when a case warrants intense spiritual support, according to reports in EWTN Vatican and InfoVaticana.

Exorcists assert that a growing number of people are dabbling in sinister practices and discovering resolutions in unsuitable locations – frequently culminating in serious anguish.

Father Francesco Bamonte, the AIE’s deputy chairman, is quoted as warning that overlooking this pattern leaves the devout without proper aid and directs certain individuals towards “unfitting answers”.
During their meeting with the Pope, the exorcists furnished a book entitled ‘Guidelines for the Ministry of Exorcism’ alongside a depiction of Saint Michael the Archangel – the revered divine combatant – from the celebrated Monte Sant’Angelo shrine.
Statements show the Pope voiced appreciation for their endeavors and gifted rosaries in return, commemorating the deceased Father Gabriele Amorth, the notable exorcist who assisted in founding the AIE.
Critics contend that numerous purported possession occurrences are more appropriately treated by physicians and mental health specialists, cautioning that discourse of a “spiritual conflict” may frighten impressionable people.
Exorcists argue that their procedures integrate medical assessment and that suitable schooling is precisely what is needed to protect the community.
