Is it conceivable for a robotic humanoid to handle your domestic responsibilities? In the near future, this may become a reality. UniX AI, a Chinese robotics firm, has declared the upcoming availability of Panther, a service robot designed in a human form to assist with everyday domestic tasks.

The robot, which weighs 176 pounds (80 kilograms) and measures 5 feet, 3 inches (1.6 meters) in height, can function for as long as 12 hours on a single charge, its creators stated in an announcement. Furthermore, UniX AI released a demonstration video showcasing Panther engaged in activities such as tidying beds, sanitizing countertops and toilets, and cooking breakfast. The company has also initiated commercial shipments of the model, indicating its readiness for deployment in practical environments.

To execute household chores, Panther is equipped with two of the globe’s premier mass-produced 8-DoF bionic arms, providing the robot with joints offering 34 degrees of freedom, according to UniX AI representatives.

At the extremity of its arms are intelligent “grippers” that conform to various forms and dimensions of objects the robot can grasp. Within the promotional footage, Panther is observed holding a plastic spatula while frying an egg and a toilet brush during the process of cleaning a toilet. The robot even proceeds to wash its hands in the sink at the conclusion of the video, drying its grippers with a bath towel.

Panther’s chassis possesses the capability to extend vertically by 31 inches (80 centimeters), enabling it to reach elevated areas, from high shelves down to ground level. It employs binocular vision and a webcam to perceive its surroundings.

While alternative humanoid robots depend on legged mobility, presenting a greater likelihood of toppling, Panther utilizes an omnidirectional four-wheel steering and four-wheel drive (4WS+4WD) base, facilitating smooth navigation across diverse indoor settings.

It incorporates both lidar and ultrasonic sensors to ascertain its position in space and travels at approximately 6 feet (1.89 m) per second, which is comparable to the pace of a rapid walk. UniX AI representatives highlighted in their statement that the engineers prioritized functionality and reliability in task completion over crafting the “most human-like robot.”

Undertaking multiple assignments

In preliminary assessments and displays, Panther successfully managed various directives, including preparing tea, tidying the kitchen, and operating a washing machine. For these operations, Panther functions using UniX AI’s integrated technological framework, which encompasses imitation learning and long-term task sequencing, enabling it to execute assignments fluently, step by step.

Beyond domestic duties, engineers have designed Panther for a broad spectrum of applications, such as providing assistance in retail environments, managing reception desks, conducting guided tours, offering elder care, serving as a companion, and supporting research and educational initiatives.

Information regarding the price of this model was not ascertainable on UniX AI’s official website.
