Two gentlemen in their fifties are alleged to have been living under the stolen identities of deceased children for over three decades, and law enforcement in Washington state is now soliciting public assistance to unravel the enigma surrounding their true identities.
The individuals have been utilizing the names Tim Seidenfeld and Glenn Scotzin since approximately 1990, with these identities linked to two children from Idaho who perished in separate incidents during the early 1970s, as stated by the Pasco Police Department in a release on Tuesday.
Investigators have characterized the situation as a multi-state identity puzzle spanning decades. However, the current predicament is not the whereabouts of the two men, according to police, but rather addressing questions concerning their pasts.
“We are not actively seeking to locate them. We are fully aware of their location,” Pasco Police Lt. Tom Groom informed the Tri-City Herald. “We are soliciting information regarding how they have conducted their lives under their assumed names.”
The men apparently surfaced in Salem, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, in 1990, shortly after adopting the identities. From there, they left a faint trace across the nation, with connections to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, and California.
Authorities suspect both men may have been employed in the telecommunications sector in the early 1990s, but they indicate that no official employment records are available, further complicating the mystery.
“Given the extended period these individuals have operated under fraudulent identities, conventional methods of identification have presented significant challenges,” the police department commented.
Law enforcement has not disclosed whether the men are suspected of any other illicit activities, but this peculiar case has prompted inquiries into how they managed to vanish into another person’s life for over 30 years.
Detectives are appealing to the public, hoping that someone may recognize the men or be able to offer insights into their genuine identities.
Authorities have requested that anyone possessing information contact the Pasco Police Department.
