Heart-stopping footage from within a school bus depicted nearly a dozen Mississippi middle school pupils taking decisive action after their bus operator became unconscious on Wednesday while driving.

Video originating from the Hancock County School District captured the driver, Leah Taylor, succumbing to unconsciousness during an asthma episode as the bus continued to roll forward.

A student situated at the front of the bus observed Taylor slumped over and took control of the steering wheel, after which she briefly regained awareness.

Additional students hurried towards the front of the bus as she collapsed once more, falling backward.

One young male swiftly applied the brakes, while a female student administered medication Taylor was holding, and others summoned assistance.

Hancock Middle School principal Melissa Saucier informed local publication WLOX that she was “not surprised to learn that our children remained composed and acted promptly.”

“This perilous situation could certainly have proven disastrous, and they managed it precisely as they ought to have,” Saucier stated. “We are exceedingly proud of them.”

The students—McKenzy Finch, Jackson Casnave, Darrius Clark, Kayleigh Clark, and Destiny Cornelius—were recognized at a school pep rally, the publication noted.

Taylor informed WLOX that she is feeling better and expressed gratitude that the students “rescued her.”

The Hancock County School District did not promptly reply to Fox News Digital’s request for commentary.
