Canadian video game maker BioWare has posted a rather unusual announcement on its website. It invited anyone who wanted to become a prototype for a computer character. Since the company specializes in combat games, the fate of most new heroes is sad. BioWare is known as the developer of role-playing games Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights. Hundreds of different characters live in each of these games. They work, relax, love, in other words, lead a very ordinary life. Supermodels and Hollywood stars are not suitable for the roles of ordinary people; representatives of simpler professions are needed here. Almost anyone could participate in the casting, which took place the other day. The only limitation was age – computer scientists were happy to see only those who were over 18 but under 99 years old. A real photo shoot was later arranged for the most attractive ones; the lucky ones were photographed in profile and full face. Later, three-dimensional images of new characters will be created from these wonderful faces. In addition to moral and aesthetic, the future victims of virtual killers also received material satisfaction. Each photo was paid for, although it is not reported how much. Understanding that very few people would like to be cannon fodder, BioWare representatives warned all casting participants in advance that they would not be able to influence the use of their images. BioWare's latest invention once again showed how deeply the computer world has entered our lives. And yet, while humanity can still live without it, only in 2014, according to scientists, will people become directly dependent on artificial intelligence and the World Wide Web. And this, in turn, can cause a devastating terrorist attack on the Network. A study called “The Future of the Internet” showed that 66% of respondents, including students, industry workers, government officials and simply interested people, believe that at least one devastating attack on the Internet infrastructure is guaranteed for people in the next ten years. What kind of terrorist attack this will be remains only a matter of hypothesis.
