It's time to give them up: 7 kitchen solutions that are inconvenient, impractical, and I'd rather not do them

This is how a person is arranged – if he likes something on the store shelf, his hand reaches out to buy his favorite thing. In the modern world, the situation has “worsened” – the dominance of marketplaces makes any product available – just press the desired button on the phone screen. As a result, unnecessary and stupid purchases multiply, forming a kind of collection – a “monument” of one's own stupidity.

Personally, for me, the kitchen is the main place in the house, where food is prepared and the whole family gathers. And since I want to simplify and automate the cooking process as much as possible, as well as make the usual and “inevitable” actions as comfortable as possible, part of my “collection of stupidity” is precisely purchases for the kitchen.

That's why I'm in a hurry to share with you the Top 7 of my most foolish kitchen purchases. And this Top includes “big” things (it's pointless to discuss inconvenient knives or graters) that were never used “conveniently” at all, didn't justify themselves either during operation, or only revealed their flaws and imperfections over time.

Non-built-in stove

A non-built-in electric stove is a real hell for a perfectionist. Still, when ordering kitchen furniture, you need to take this nuance into account and immediately integrate the stove into the lower modules.

Otherwise, it turns out to be clearly inappropriate – the tile is clearly not the right size, poorly fitted to the neighboring modules and looks like a kind of alien among the lower cabinets.

There is another nuance – various kinds of dirt easily get into the gaps between the modules, no matter how small they may seem. And it is a real horror for “cleaners” when doing a general cleaning to move the modules adjacent to the stove and inevitably find greasy stains that “decorate” a thick layer of stuck dust.

Poor quality plumbing

Poor-quality plumbing can fail at any moment. And it starts to fail both in small things (for example, the faucet starts to buzz) and in quite expensive variations of events (one poor-quality faucet, bursting near the lamb, flooded the neighbors in my absence).

Still, plumbing is the last item you need to save on. Personally, after a faucet breaks, any long business trip makes me think:

“Is everything okay with the plumbing?”

By the way, it is in this area of life that the saying works best: “We are not rich enough to buy cheap things.” It is better to spend money and gain confidence that the faucet or siphon will not fail.

Black and white granite sinks

A granite sink is expensive, plentiful, technologically advanced, and convenient. But God forbid you choose a black or white version.

Black is a real accumulator of various stains and dirt, which have to be wiped off with unenviable regularity. White loses its luster very quickly, taking into account the impurities contained in the water. As a result, it is much more difficult to wash off the darkening of a white sink than stains on a black one.

Hinged doors of lower modules

Still, progress does not stand still. And kitchen furniture designers are thinking more and more about ergonomics.

Have you noticed how relatively cheap kitchens with lower modules in the swing version are? However, there is no secret or “conspiracy of manufacturers” in this. It's just that the swing version of the lower cabinets is an extremely inconvenient version of the module.

Surprisingly ergonomic drawers. Especially if they are hung on strong fittings that will not warp or jam during operation. I pulled out the drawer and everything is at my fingertips. You can not be distracted from cooking and always have the entire list of kitchen utensils at hand…

… Try not to get distracted if you have hinged drawers. Any need means crouching or kneeling and a long search for the right item in the depths of the antediluvian “monsters.”

Consider this feature before buying – you won't regret it later!

Poor quality fittings

Hardware also includes handles, latches, and hooks. In general, everything that has auxiliary, applied functionality during the operation of something.

Strong and high-quality kitchen fittings are very important – integrity not only allows you to maintain the “purchased” appearance for the longest time, but is also resistant to various negative influences. And there are always many influences in the kitchen – from a slipped mug to “snags” during the cooking process.

When buying a kitchen corner, always be interested in which company produced the fittings. Don't spare your money on this aspect either.

Special attention to retractable structures

Pay special attention to the strength of the pull-out structures. Believe me, a drawer that is skewed during operation will cause a whole sea of problems.

Moreover, the visual defect will be an “eye-sore” until you take a number of actions to correct the situation. Therefore, it is better to take into account possible breakdowns right away. And if the manufacturer “hung” too much load on a drawer (this can be seen from the configuration of the drawer), then it is better to look at other options where the load (filling) is distributed more competently.

White glossy kitchen facades

White is an ageless classic. But even in a matte finish, keeping white kitchen units clean is a huge hassle, as any dirt shows up much more clearly than on another color.

Even worse are white glossy facades. Here, the number of actions aimed at maintaining cleanliness must be immediately doubled.

Even worse are white glossy facades made of MDF and PVC. Over time, this material begins to “absorb” dirt and quickly loses its gloss – think about this before buying.

Dark glossy facades

Look at the arguments from the previous point. Here it's the same. But just mentally replace the color with “black.”

Deep upper cabinets

Only a very short-sighted furniture manufacturer tries to “equalize” the depth of the upper and lower cabinets.

Mezzanine modules with great depth are a real problem for tall housewives (what to say about small women). Some necessary items constantly, in the most mysterious way, “go deep”. As a result, you have to do a lot of unnecessary manipulations to suddenly get the container or shaker you need.

The upper cabinets should be made so that it is as easy and simple as possible to get the item you are interested in. Everything else is “from the Evil One.”
