Information has been updated about the giant asteroid that threatened Earth, which was nearly 300 meters in length.
This cosmic “boulder” has alarmed scientists due to its dangerous approach to the blue planet, reports a correspondent for the online publication Belnovosti.
However, the worries were put to rest as asteroid 2025 FA22 passed by Earth.
Sergei Bogachev, head of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reassured all inhabitants of the planet.
According to him, the largest stone from the vast expanses of the universe is now moving away from the Earth.
By the way, this asteroid (130 by 290 meters) is on the list of the most dangerous celestial bodies for the blue planet.
On September 18 at 10:41 am Belarusian time, it “safely passed by the Earth and the Moon at the minimum calculated distance.”
It is currently moving away from the planet, the MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes the specialist as saying.
According to him, the asteroid was discovered in March 2025.
For some time, it topped the list of the most dangerous (potentially) objects according to the European Space Agency.
Despite the fact that the object is moving away from Earth, its brightness in the sky is rapidly increasing, Bogachev noted.
He explains this by the fact that the “boulder” crossed the Earth’s orbit from the inside, that is, it flew away from the Sun, being illuminated from behind all the time.
Now, having found itself on the other side of the orbit, it is fully illuminated, the scientist noted.
