Man spends 7 days looking for UK’s rarest animal – then it chases him

Cookie, a wildlife enthusiast, was chased by the rarest animal in the UK after spending a week searching for it in a rural area of Scotland.

A wildlife enthusiast left fans in stitches after he spent days searching for an animal only for it to chase him down the road.

Cookie, who is known for his YouTube social media channel “Wildlife with Cookie”, often shares his adventures searching for animals in places they shouldn’t be. But recently, he devoted his time to finding some of the rarest creatures the UK has to offer.

One of these animals was the capercaillie, a large, turkey-sized game bird that inhabits the forests of Scotland. The rare species is at risk of extinction – with just over 500 left in the Scottish countryside.

But while these birds are rare, Cookie still managed to catch site of one on his trip after a week of searching. But the reaction he got from the bird wasn’t what he expected.

In a video, which gained more than 78,000 likes, the creature was seen making its way out of the bushes. “Oh my God, that is massive,” Cookie gushed.

However, he quickly realised the animal was annoyed by his presence and started backing away. But the animal charged up the road towards him as he laughed nervously, adding: “He’s displaying at me. He’s angry.”

TikTok users were left in stitches over the clip and took to the comments to poke fun at him. One user said: “This like finding a shiny Pokemon,” as another commented: “I love how excited you get! It’s so heartwarming.”

Someone else penned: “Congrats bro this is the first vid of a wild wild capercaillie that wasn’t on National Geographic I’ve ever seen.” Meanwhile, a fourth joked: “Is it just me who was expecting his mate to come out of the bushes dressed up as a bear.”

Cookie’s full search for the UK’s rarest animals is now available to watch on his YouTube channel.
