Space weather experts say a moderate geomagnetic storm could hit Earth on Friday or Saturday (August 8 or 9) that could cause auroras to appear in the skies over the northern United States.

On Wednesday (August 6), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a geomagnetic storm warning, suggesting it was likely related to a recent solar flare that occurred in an active region of the Sun.

According to NOAA, the impact of this storm will be controlled and limited to technological infrastructure. However, for amateur astronomers, the aurora borealis may be visible from New York to Idaho.
