On Saturday, April 12, at dusk, look to the east to watch the rise of the next full moon: the “Pink Moon.”

April’s full moon — the first full moon of spring in the Northern Hemisphere — occurs when Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon. Our natural satellite will be fully illuminated at 8:22 p.m. ET on April 12, rising in the east at dusk, shining all night before setting in the west at dawn. If you miss the event, the moon will also be bright and full on Friday and Sunday.

While you may think it's okay to just admire any phase of the moon at any time of night, the full moon is too bright when it's high in the sky to view comfortably. The best time to view it is definitely when it's rising or setting – the former is much easier if you're not an early riser.
