Unique footage has captured the moment elephants at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park formed a protective ring around their young during the magnitude 5.2 earthquake that struck Southern California early yesterday (April 14).
According to the Associated Press, one of the zoo's cameras captured three adult elephants (Ndlula, Umngani and Khosi) trying to protect two seven-year-old cubs (Zuli and Mkaya) from a possible threat.
“Elephants have a unique ability to perceive sound through their paws and created what is known as a 'circle of alarm' during the magnitude 5.2 earthquake that struck Southern California this morning,” the San Diego Zoo Safari Park said in a Facebook post Monday.
