The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be more intense than usual, according to forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The hurricane season, which starts June 1 and ends November 30, will have a 60% chance of above-normal activity. Between 13 and 19 named tropical storms — with winds of 39 mph (63 kph) or greater — are forecast to develop, of which six to 10 will become hurricanes, and three to five of those will reach major hurricane status — with winds greater than 111 mph (179 kph).

In years with normal hurricane activity, there were 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.
