A Walmart employee said a shopper called police after accidentally overpaying for an avocado at a self-checkout counter and then accusing the store of “robbing” him.

The unusual incident was recorded on a Reddit page dedicated to all things Walmart.

User “Lore-Archivist” shared the situation, encouraging others to share their own strange experiences at the self-checkout.

According to Archivist-Tradition, the man “brought in a lot of merchandise” and claimed that an item on the shelf that cost $9.99 was $19.99 at the checkout.

The Reddit poster noted that a Walmart shift supervisor was able to fix the issue for the shopper.

But it happened again, and one after another the goods were resistant to change, the Archivist of Knowledge reported.

“Then he ate the avocado,” he added.

“I guess he accidentally entered 999 avocados instead of 9 like he intended.”

“I guess he accidentally entered 999 avocados instead of 9 as he intended. His total went up to over $1,300.”

That's when the shopper “became enraged” and started screaming, then said he was “calling the police” because Walmart was “robbing” him, the Reddit poster said.

The customer called 911 and police arrived on scene as stated in the discussion.

“This guy puts on a whole circus and then shows everyone the self-checkout screen,” again claiming Walmart is “ripping him off.”

Walmart employees tried to calm the customer down, “but he still [wouldn't] shut up,” the man wrote.

The customer was warned he had to leave the store or face arrest for trespassing, but he refused to leave until Walmart compensated him for his “pain, suffering and anguish.”

Eventually, “his own police officers, whom he had called, handcuffed him and took him outside,” Lore-Archivist reported.

Several Reddit users have shared their ways of dealing with similar situations at their jobs.

“My standard response was always, 'Would you like to use our phone to do this?' No one ever responded to me after that,” one person wrote.

“Nobody has called the police yet.”

“I had a client who was interfering with our work and constantly threatening to call the police.”

Another user added: “I had a client who was disrupting our work and constantly threatening to call the police. I called and handed over the phone. It was amazing how quickly they left.”

Another Walmart employee said shoppers at the self-checkout lane often “complain about having to 'do their job' or say we're paid to stand there.”
