Another seat-swapping scam has struck again: A female airline passenger has revealed her first experience with a “seat-swapping scam.”

In a post on the r/delta Reddit forum, one user wrote that she and her husband chose Comfort Plus on a “long haul” in a 2-3-2 configuration.

“We each had an aisle seat and someone was sitting between us, so my husband offered to swap his aisle seat with the guy sitting in the middle,” the woman said.

“This is where it gets really intriguing,” she added.

“The guy in the middle was happy with the swap, but then wanted me to switch places with his wife so they could stay together. I refused because where would I be then?”

The woman said that if she had agreed, she would have ended up in economy class.

“The guy went back to economy and found someone willing to switch seats with him so he could be with his wife. I guess he moved to C+ and hoped to get it over with quickly,” the user wrote.

She also noted that “a lovely woman from Germany received a free upgrade and was happy to take an aisle seat.”

“I've read about a few place swap scams but never thought I'd experience one myself,” she concluded her post.

Reddit users are discussing the phenomenon of seat swapping in the comments and sharing their personal experiences of flying.

“Here's a crazy idea that would work in 99% of the place swaps I read about here,” one participant wrote.

“Buy the seat you want and sit there. If the seat you want is no longer available, choose another seat and sit there.”

The same user continued: “If you can't part with your travel companion for the duration of the flight, drive.”

“We [offered] to swap more out of politeness to the person sitting in the middle than out of a need to sit next to each other,” one added.

Another Reddit member wrote: “It's nice that it all ended well.”

“I would never ask someone to switch places,” added another.

One user on the platform noted, “Just got home from a long weekend trip alone. During the trip, I offered to swap seats with my husband so he could sit with his wife. They were happy. I was happy.”

“Today [a flight attendant] asked if I could switch seats so an older couple could sit together,” the same participant continued.

“Yes, no problem. I admit, this was my first experience of being pampered in first class, so moving from first class to first class was not a punishment for me, but as a solo traveler, I was happy to help couples sit next to each other.”
