A man's post about having to run special shopping errands for his girlfriend has sparked a heated debate among hundreds of social media users, touching on the topic of relationship expectations.

In a post on Reddit, which has more than 24 million members, the man began by noting that he works 12 hours a day, while his girlfriend works four to eight hours.

“At least once a week she asks me to stop by the store on the way home and buy kombucha (which only she drinks) or something else like beer, diet coke, or snacks,” a Reddit member said.

“She usually [goes] grocery shopping that same day and says she forgot something.”

However, he said, requests for fermented tea and other specific preferences were overwhelming, which eventually forced him to take a stand.

He said the decision made him a “bad guy.”

“Considering that I leave before her and return later, with only a few hours at the end of the day to rest, I finally started telling her “no” and I became the “bad guy,” the man concluded.

The publication caused a wave of mixed reactions, with many commentators criticizing the man for his point of view.

“You're already out and probably driving past a store,” one user said. “Go into the damn store. This isn't a competition. Just do your part. That's a very immature attitude.”

“Who cleans the toilets? I'm cool,” wrote another. “You can buy your girlfriend kombucha a few times a week. Next time, buy her flowers.”

Others supported the guy's point of view, saying it was reasonable to decline the request.

“I used to work 12-hour shifts for years and was like a zombie,” one person said. “I could never get enough sleep. I wouldn't go to the store unless I absolutely had to.”

Another said, “Don't listen to these people who don't understand what real work is.”

Others took a more neutral approach to the issue, suggesting that the problem could be solved through better communication.

“Discuss this openly and you will surely find a solution,” one of them suggested.

“It is no wonder that she doubts his love when he judges everything so coldly and impartially.”

“Talk to her about it first,” said another. “Once or twice a month is fine, but once or twice a week is not.”
