The couple's renovation project took an unexpected turn when plumbers discovered a locked cash register under the floors, a discovery Josh Brooks and his wife Emily shared with their TikTok followers.
“This happened today when the main task was to restore the heating pipes under the floor,” Josh captioned his first video, in which one of the workers finds a mysterious round object under the tiles.

“I've been in this business for twenty years, but I've never encountered anything like this before,” the plumber exclaimed in bewilderment.
The intrigue grew when it became apparent that it was the dial of a safe. When Josh asked how old the safe was, the plumber replied, “It's old, very old.”

Josh added that the house was built in the 1940s, which led the second plumber to speculate that the previous owners chose not to remove the safe but deliberately hid it.
One of the plumbers shared his own research into the history of the house: “I couldn’t find any records of previous owners, I tried to find them,” which further fueled interest in the possible treasures the safe might contain.
One plumber humorously put the mystery before the job: “I don't care anymore,” he joked as he tried to pry open the safe with a hammer. “It'll probably take about six hours to get this safe out!”

Josh soon posted a short follow-up video stating that he believed the safe resembled a World War II switchboard, which was apparently supported by the engraving on it.
However, before he could reveal its contents, he began attacking again with the drill.
Having successfully penetrated the safe to within 45mm of the combination lock as he was told, Josh stuck his camera through the hole to get a better look, which only added to the mystery.
“What is this?” he asked, barely managing to notice something behind the small bead-shaped object.
The plumbers then had a chance to get into the details. They started by chipping away at the dial and driving a screwdriver into the spot where it had been installed.
After using various tools on the metal structure, they eventually managed to break into the safe. “Here, look,” one of them said to Josh.

The mystery item was a neatly folded newspaper dated October 22, 1977, with a headline calling for the late football manager Brian Clough to be “given a job” – presumably as England manager, which never happened.
However, the newspaper's coup did not provide any additional information about the reasons for its concealment.
“It's crazy that you keep that in a safe,” one of the plumbers noted. They also pulled out another odd item – a miniature gold object that resembled a globe-shaped ornament.
The newspaper, which was stained in places and contained another article with the headline “How I was seduced by a sexy vicar,” gave rise to many theories.
Some were left extremely shocked, with one TikTok user commenting: “We should contact the police, this could help with the cold case and could be used as evidence if it really is a trophy taken from the killer.”

Another urged: “Look in the newspapers for mentions of a murder or missing person and the gold item will most likely turn out to be a souvenir from that person's necklace or something like that.”
Not everyone was so worried, however. A third person suggested: “Time capsules were really big in the 70s. Blue Peter had a famous time capsule and people just copied the style.”
A fourth explained the small object as follows: “It looks like the Sealed Ball of Harmony – they were made for pregnant women to symbolise protection.”
Meanwhile, a fifth TikTok user noted: “My grandpa would line the bottom of drawers with some newspaper that probably didn't matter.”
Josh agreed: “Yeah, that makes sense. Say
