Tourists staying at a hotel in central Manchester have reported encounters with terrifying paranormal phenomena, from dark figures lurking in the corridors to mirrors that seem to ‘flicker’ before their eyes. The Britannia Hotel in Manchester, formerly known as the Sachas Hotel, has become known for its eerie atmosphere and rumours of ghosts.
Situated next to Piccadilly Gardens in the heart of the city, the imposing Victorian building has been attracting increasing attention thanks to strange reports from both guests and employees. Visitors have been sharing their disturbing stories on review sites and social media.

Some report seeing dark, fuzzy figures moving through hallways and rooms, shadows that disappear as they approach.
Others describe unexplained sounds at night, including ghostly footsteps, knocks, and the sound of doors opening or closing when the building is unoccupied.
However, perhaps the most disturbing aspect was that one visitor claimed to have seen a mirror on the wall appear to “ripple” as if it were liquid.
“It wasn’t just a trick of the light, it seemed like the glass was moving,” they wrote in their review.
Other guests report sudden cold spots, especially on some floors and in stairwells, with noticeable temperature changes lasting several minutes.
Many described the atmosphere at the hotel as “heavy” or “oppressive,” and one guest admitted to feeling like he was being “watched” when he tried to sleep.
Another reviewer wrote: “Stayed overnight at the Britannia Hotel in Manchester city centre. Keep hearing the same man's whistle, always the same, first at midnight, now at 3am, and it's happened three more times. Googled it and found out two people have died there. Now I'm panicking. Literally… the place sounds haunted.”
The building's long history may shed light on the situation. Built in the early 20th century, it served various military functions during World War I and World War II, including housing for servicemen.
It is believed that a fire broke out at the hotel during World War II, and some paranormal enthusiasts believe that the ghostly appearances may be due to the traumatic events that occurred.
Others believe that a hotel may simply retain the residual energy of decades of activity and emotion.
While skeptics blame the hotel's age, creaky infrastructure and dim lighting, supporters remain convinced that something more sinister is at work.
The Britannia Hotel may not advertise itself as a ghost hunting destination, but it's quickly becoming a spooky spot for thrill seekers who want to know if the shadows in the hallway are real.
