New research confirms that the ring fortress was once the home of high-ranking medieval figures, and parts of the site may be as much as a thousand years older than previously thought.

According to The Irish Times, an archaeological team spent eight weeks exploring the ring fort, during which glass beads of various colours, including blue, turquoise and red, were found. Many of the beads are thought to date back to the early medieval period, but it is also possible that some are from the Iron Age, which preceded the early medieval period.
