Humanoid robots compete, fight and fall at the first World Humanoid Games held in China.

The Olympic-style competition features more than 500 robots from 16 countries competing in events including running, soccer and kickboxing. The event will also feature more specialized competitions, including sorting medicine and handling materials for cleaning companies, Reuters reports.

The opening ceremony officially marked the start of the Beijing Games on Thursday (August 14). The robots danced and played musical instruments alongside human operators and their companions. The robot athletes will now compete until the Games conclude on Sunday (August 17).
