It's not about expensive furniture: 6 signs of an energizing home

You may notice that in one apartment you feel calm and fulfilled, while in another you feel emotionally drained and apathetic. And it's good if the second case is not about your home. Here are six signs of a home that charges you with energy and positivity.

Order is the key to peace

When everything in the apartment is in its place, an atmosphere of harmony reigns as if by magic. You can achieve order by planning in advance the arrangement of furniture, appliances and the location of home accessories. Every little thing, be it a vase or a poster on the wall, should be part of a single composition, and not blind the eyes, creating visual noise.

It's not about sterile cleanliness, it's about system. I used to struggle with the feeling that my home was “suffocating” me, until I realized that every item without a place is a small source of stress for the brain. My personal life hack: start a “weekend basket.” Once a week, go through your house and collect everything that is not in its place. Then, organize, throw away, or put it away for another room. This turns a big, scary mess into a manageable weekly routine. And believe me, your brain will thank you for this predictability.

Let there be light

Natural lighting in an apartment is much more important than artificial. It accompanies you throughout the day. Choose a space and a home with large windows as much as possible. Because the more daylight, and if these windows are on a good sunny side, then you are provided with more light.

It is not always possible to choose an apartment with panoramic windows facing south. My previous apartment had little sunlight, and this often affected my mood, especially in winter, causing a feeling of depression. I realized that this was not a sentence. Then I freed the windows from heavy curtains as much as possible, used light colors in the interior, added mirrors opposite the light sources, and also bought several bright floor lamps and table lamps with warm light. Even a small additional light source can radically change the feeling of space and your cheerfulness, imitating natural lighting.

Color scheme

Properly selected colors in the interior will certainly please the eye and energize you. Natural shades that we see every day on the street, especially in the warm season, are very beautiful: the color of fresh grass, clear sky, tree bark and the first fallen leaves. A competent specialist will help to combine the scale so that both wallpaper, furniture and textiles are fragments of one picture called “a cozy, sweet home”.

When I first started thinking about interior design, my preference was for bright, trendy colors. But over time, I realized that they quickly become boring and can even be annoying, causing visual fatigue. It wasn't until I started experimenting with natural tones—shades of sand, earth, clouds, soft greens—that my home *truly* began to feel like a peaceful haven.

Personal island

Think about where in your home there could be a corner for you. For example, if you like to read or paint, then you need your own cozy island where you can relax and create.

I used to think that a “personal island” was a privilege of large apartments, where you can have a separate office or workshop. But from my experience living in small spaces, I realized that it can be just a comfortable chair with a fluffy blanket and a reading lamp, where you sit down with a cup of tea for 15 minutes. Or even the kitchen table, where you like to drink coffee in the morning while everyone is still sleeping. The main thing is the mental awareness that this is your place, where you will not be disturbed (even if it is only for a short time), and where you can be alone with your thoughts or your favorite activity. It is not about size, but about allowing yourself personal space, even if it is temporary or shared, but with clearly defined boundaries.

Attraction zones

Every room has details that immediately draw the eye. For example, in the bedroom, it's the headboard. In the bathroom, it's the mirror, and in the living room, it's the sofa or fireplace, or the area above them where paintings or photographs hang. It's a kind of magnet, the center of the composition, which decorates and organizes it at the same time.

I've noticed that in the apartments where I feel most comfortable, there is always “something” that catches the eye and seems to “tell a story.” It doesn't have to be an expensive object or a ready-made design element. In my home, such a “magnet” is a large shelf with books, travel photos, and souvenirs that have special meaning to me.

More air

The climate in the room is very important for comfort. If the apartment is constantly stuffy or drafty, you are unlikely to enjoy being there. At home, you need to breathe deeply, and therefore the air temperature should be such that you feel like you are in a paradise, say, on the ocean shore after sunset or during spa treatments.

Regular airing (even for 5-10 minutes several times a day, regardless of the season), as well as using an air purifier or humidifier (especially during the heating season) can turn your apartment from a “stuffy place” into a real oasis of freshness and easy breathing. Also try adding indoor plants – they not only purify the air, but also add a sense of life and peace.

When you are comfortable, it means that the colors, ergonomics, composition, order in your home, music, aromas, all of this energizes you.
