A couple from Leeds, West Yorkshire, have bought a house that had been 'derelict' for five years before they bought it, and they are now working to transform it into their dream home.

The duo were stunned when they removed what appeared to be a fireplace mantel and discovered that there was something hidden behind it, quite possibly an AGA.

They filmed their discovery and posted the video on TikTok, where it has already garnered over 1.6 million views.

Commenting on this, the woman says: “This will be the biggest hidden feature.”

When a thin panel peels away from the wall, revealing a hidden cream warmer underneath, the man, shocked and delighted, simply says, “Oh.”

The woman then enthusiastically exclaims, “It's an AHA!”

In the video's caption, the couple wrote, “This isn't what we thought. We actually thought it would be an enclosed fireplace.”

People enthusiastically shared their thoughts in the comments. One wrote, “Please make this part of the article.”

Another agreed: “Oh my god, it would be great if you could get it running again.”

A third commented: “What a great find. I hope you keep it and get it working. I'd love to have one of those installed.”

Another person said, “Now that's a real antique stove you have.”

And someone else pleaded, “Tell us what you're doing with it! It would be great to see if it's fully functional after all these years in secret.”

Another shared, “I bought a house built in 1881. I pulled up the carpet and found parquet flooring in two rooms. It still had the original beeswax.”

The couple replied, “Wow… maybe we'll find something similar… let's hope.”

Another person warned: “If you store it, check for asbestos to be on the safe side! But it's a good find.”

In response to numerous confusion about the AGA's purpose, one TikTok user explained: “A lot of people in the comments are confused, because it's a regular cast-iron stove that's heated by whatever you put in the adjacent firebox. I grew up using one when the power went out, usually because a farmer drove a tractor over the cables.”

“Depending on the condition/size/type, they can be worth a pretty penny. Great find. Ours were replaced a few years ago.”

In a subsequent comment, the couple admitted that they were “and still are stunned” by their find, although they have not yet decided what to do with it.
