Arachnids: they’re spine-chilling, they’re slithery, and they’re irrefutably captivating. Featuring roughly 50,000 documented types across the globe, spiders have become accustomed to practically every habitat on the globe; consider deserts, grottoes, tropical forests, even marine settings. Whether they instill a sense of unease or cause a thrill, these eight-legged conundrums offer more depth than initially perceived.
As frightening as their appearance can be — regularly featuring in terror flicks and our most dreadful dreams — most arachnids lean towards avoiding human contact, preferring to dash away instead of launching an assault. Indeed, spiders rank amongst the most accomplished architects, survival experts, and predators in the natural world. From bizarre mating behaviors to top-tier predation approaches, we can’t resist being in awe of these highly versatile arthropods.
