Headless Chicken Monster: A Deep-Sea Sea Cucumber With Sediment-Eating Tube Legs

Name: Headless Chicken Monster (Enypniastes eximia)

Habitat: The depths of the world's oceans.

What it eats: Marine snow (organic matter that floats from the surface to the seabed).

If you were to encounter this unusual creature in the ocean, you could be forgiven for thinking that someone had dumped a chicken carcass bobbing in the sea – hence its nickname, the 'headless chicken monster'.

However, this strange creature is actually a sea cucumber that lives in the depths of the ocean, usually at depths of over 1,600 feet (500 meters) and at the very bottom.

It is a bright maroon colour, has webbed feet for swimming and measures 9.8 inches (25 centimetres) long – about the same size as a small fried chicken.
