Coronavirus patient, 110, clapped out of hospital as one of world’s oldest survivors

    A 110-year-old coronavirus patient was clapped out of hospital as one of the world's oldest survivors.

    Pensioner Davino Cordeiro left the Centre for the Control and Combat of Coronavirus in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, after being treated for 18 days.

    Davino had been admitted into the medical facility on June 19, but had not needed to be treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

    He has now beaten the virus and in the video he can be seen being wheeled into a corridor lined with medics who applaud him on his way out.

    His family of seven children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren celebrated him being discharged, with his granddaughter Luciana Cordeiro Leodoro saying: "All my cousins and I were really scared for our grandad.

    "We are very happy and relieved now that he is home. I want to thank everybody at the centre who treated my grandad. Thank you to each and every one of you."

    The oldest official coronavirus patient to beat the disease was Maria Branyas, 113, who was born in San Francisco and survived Covid-19 while in the Santa Maria del Tura care home where she lives in the city of Olot, in the eastern Spanish province of Girona in the Catalonia region.

    In the UK, 106-year-old great-grandmother Connie Titchen fought off the bug in Birmingham and left hospital back in April.

    In China, a 100-year-old man has recovered from coronavirus and returned home after fighting off the deadly disease, according to Chinese state media.

    The pensioner, who was receiving treatment at a hospital in Wuhan, China, is the oldest known person to have recovered after contracting the virus, reports Xinhua news agency.

    He was among more than 80 patients who had been diagnosed and since gone on to recover – with all being discharged from a wing of Hubei Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital on Saturday.

    The pensioner managed a recovery despite suffering from underlying health conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension and heart failure.

    He was first admitted to hospital on February 24 and received a range of treatments from military doctors.
