Former paramedic Kees Veldboer has fulfilled the dying wishes of more than 14,000 terminally ill patients after buying fleet of ambulances to transport them around in their final day

n

An ambulance driver has revealed how he's fulfilled the dying wishes of more than 14,000 terminally ill patients

n

Former paramedic Kees Veldboer from the Netherlands bought a fleet of ambulances and is using them to transport dying people on one last trip out.

n

The 60-year-old came up with the idea when one day he had to transfer a terminally ll patient to another hospital.

n

There was a delay and Kees asked the patient where he would like to go.

n

The patient wanted to see the Rotterdam Harbour for one last time, so Kees took him and he even arranged for the man to go sailing one more time, even though he was on a stretcher.

n

A year later Kees founded the Stichting Ambulance Wens, or Ambulance Wish Foundation and with the help of his wife Ineke, 61, has turned it into his full-time job.

n

Kees, who worked for over 20 years as an ambulance driver used the hospital's ambulances to help people around the country and later was able to buy his own.

n

He has taken them everywhere from art exhibitions, to watching their favourite football team one last time, and even took one terminally ill teen from his home in the Netherlands to Switzerland to see mountains, that he had never seen before.

n

n

He said: "Every day we help six terminally ill people.

n

"It's so nice to see them happy, for us it's something easy to do but for them it's something so special.

n

"We have driven people for miles, even to other countries, and taken them to some really amazing places.

n

"But for me, the most beautiful thing I think we have done for a woman who was in a hospital for months and after being given a terminal diagnosis, she was taken into a hospice.

n

  n

"All she wanted was to see her home for one last time- we took her there and she was just standing there for an hour, looking around.

n

"Two days later, she died, it was such a beautiful wish, so simple yet so meaningful for her."

n

Stichting Ambulance Wens try to fulfil any last wishes they can, no matter how quirky they might be.

n

A terminally-ill grandmother was able to meet her newborn grandchild while another grandmother attended her grandson's wedding.

n

In another case the Stichting Ambulance Wens took a man, to his last car show in Rosmalen, while two immobile ladies visited the Sand Stories in Elburg for the last time.

n

Stichting Ambulance Wens offers something that the patient's relatives cannot do themselves and in most cases patients are immobile and bound to a stretcher so they wouldn't be able to move in a car or another vehicle.

n

Kees added: "It's not only about helping the patient, we also help their families and friends create beautiful memories.

n

"We know we cannot make them better but we give them so much joy in their last days and it's special."

fulfilled the dying wishes of more than 14,000 terminally ill patients after buying fleet of ambulances to transport them around in their final daynAn ambulance driver has revealed how he’s fulfilled the dying wishes of more than 14,000 terminally ill patientsnFormer paramedic Kees Veldboer from the Netherlands bought a fleet of ambulances and is using them to transport dying people on one last trip out.nThe 60-year-old came up with the idea when one day he had to transfer a terminally ll patient to another hospital.nThere was a delay and Kees asked the patient where he would like to go.nThe patient wanted to see the Rotterdam Harbour for one last time, so Kees took him and he even arranged for the man to go sailing one more time, even though he was on a stretcher.n Cancer patient with four weeks to live is jailed for 10 months for stealing food n Man slams Jet2 after onboard snack arrived looking ‘more like contents of baby’s nappy’ nA year later Kees founded the Stichting Ambulance Wens, or Ambulance Wish Foundation and with the help of his wife Ineke, 61, has turned it into his full-time job.nKees, who worked for over 20 years as an ambulance driver used the hospital’s ambulances to help people around the country and later was able to buy his own.nHe has taken them everywhere from art exhibitions, to watching their favourite football team one last time, and even took one terminally ill teen from his home in the Netherlands to Switzerland to see mountains, that he had never seen before.nHe said: “Every day we help six terminally ill people.n”It’s so nice to see them happy, for us it’s something easy to do but for them it’s something so special.n”We have driven people for miles, even to other countries, and taken them to some really amazing places.n”But for me, the most beautiful thing I think we have done for a woman who was in a hospital for months and after being given a terminal diagnosis, she was taken into a hospice.n”All she wanted was to see her home for one last time- we took her there and she was just standing there for an hour, looking around.n”Two days later, she died, it was such a beautiful wish, so simple yet so meaningful for her.”nStichting Ambulance Wens try to fulfil any last wishes they can, no matter how quirky they might be.n Top news stories from Mirror Online nA terminally-ill grandmother was able to meet her newborn grandchild while another grandmother attended her grandson’s wedding.nIn another case the Stichting Ambulance Wens took a man, to his last car show in Rosmalen, while two immobile ladies visited the Sand Stories in Elburg for the last time.nStichting Ambulance Wens offers something that the patient’s relatives cannot do themselves and in most cases patients are immobile and bound to a stretcher so they wouldn’t be able to move in a car or another vehicle.nKees added: “It’s not only about helping the patient, we also help their families and friends create beautiful memories.n”We know we cannot make them better but we give them so much joy in their last days and it’s special.”n”,”usage”:{“features”:9,”text_units”:1,”text_characters”:3107},”language”:”en”,”semantic_roles”:[{“sentence”:”Former paramedic Kees Veldboer has fulfilled the dying wishes of more than An ambulance driver has revealed how he's fulfilled the dying wishes of more than 14,000 terminally ill patients

Former paramedic Kees Veldboer from the Netherlands bought a fleet of ambulances and is using them to transport dying people on one last trip out.

The 60-year-old came up with the idea when one day he had to transfer a terminally ll patient to another hospital.

There was a delay and Kees asked the patient where he would like to go.

The patient wanted to see the Rotterdam Harbour for one last time, so Kees took him and he even arranged for the man to go sailing one more time, even though he was on a stretcher.

A year later Kees founded the Stichting Ambulance Wens, or Ambulance Wish Foundation and with the help of his wife Ineke, 61, has turned it into his full-time job.

Kees, who worked for over 20 years as an ambulance driver used the hospital's ambulances to help people around the country and later was able to buy his own.

He has taken them everywhere from art exhibitions, to watching their favourite football team one last time, and even took one terminally ill teen from his home in the Netherlands to Switzerland to see mountains, that he had never seen before.

He said: "Every day we help six terminally ill people.

"It's so nice to see them happy, for us it's something easy to do but for them it's something so special.

"We have driven people for miles, even to other countries, and taken them to some really amazing places.

"But for me, the most beautiful thing I think we have done for a woman who was in a hospital for months and after being given a terminal diagnosis, she was taken into a hospice.

"All she wanted was to see her home for one last time- we took her there and she was just standing there for an hour, looking around.

"Two days later, she died, it was such a beautiful wish, so simple yet so meaningful for her."

Stichting Ambulance Wens try to fulfil any last wishes they can, no matter how quirky they might be.

A terminally-ill grandmother was able to meet her newborn grandchild while another grandmother attended her grandson's wedding.

In another case the Stichting Ambulance Wens took a man, to his last car show in Rosmalen, while two immobile ladies visited the Sand Stories in Elburg for the last time.

Stichting Ambulance Wens offers something that the patient's relatives cannot do themselves and in most cases patients are immobile and bound to a stretcher so they wouldn't be able to move in a car or another vehicle.

Kees added: "It's not only about helping the patient, we also help their families and friends create beautiful memories.

"We know we cannot make them better but we give them so much joy in their last days and it's special."
