Eight-year-old British boy falls out of Ibiza hotel window while going to get a towel

An eight-year-old British boy suffered multiple serious injuries after falling from a balcony in Ibiza and was airlifted to the intensive care unit of Son Espases Hospital in Mallorca.

A British boy who was seriously injured after falling from the third floor of a hotel lost his balance while trying to reach a towel hanging on the balcony, it was revealed today.

The eight-year-old boy who suffered a head injury, a fractured skull and a broken jaw after a horror fall from the third floor of a hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza, on Tuesday night was with his grandmother at the time. Police investigators confirmed later this evening that the incident was being treated as an accident and hospital authorities are expected to give an update on the injured boy's condition later today. He was airlifted to intensive care at the Son Espases hospital in Mallorca after emergency surgery at a private local clinic.

The boy fell from the balcony of the Vibra Bay aparthotel in the San Antonio resort of Ibiza at about 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The regional government emergency response coordination center activated a multiple-trauma alert so that the first hospital he was taken to could prepare for his arrival. Civil Guard leaders issued a green alert so that officers could clear the way for an ambulance and ensure that the young man reached a medical center as quickly as possible.

The private hospital Clinica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, where he underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday evening, confirmed the list of injuries sustained after his admission.

Medical workers diagnosed severe traumatic brain injury, noting that he had a skull fracture, subdural hematoma and cerebral swelling. They also listed injuries including a broken jaw and chest trauma. The transfer to Mallorca was reportedly due to a lack of space in the paediatric intensive care unit in Ibiza.

A 24-year-old British tourist was seriously injured after falling from his hotel window in Puerto Banus, near Marbella on the Costa del Sol, early on Sunday morning.

He was in a ground floor room with friends who were said to be asleep when he fell. The injured tourist is believed to have been drinking heavily before collapsing onto the street below the Hard Rock Hotel, the equivalent of falling from a three-story building due to the area he was in.

He was hospitalised at the Regional University Hospital of Malaga with injuries to the chest, abdomen and pelvis, and is also believed to have suffered several broken bones.

Two Irish tourists were injured after falling from their buggy on a golf course near Marbella on Saturday.

One of the men had to be airlifted to hospital after he knocked down a protective fence around the green near the 18th hole at Santa Clara Golf Course and fell about 23 feet.
