These days, buying a fitness tracker has become easier, with options to suit almost any budget, size, and functionality. Two of the best (and most versatile) brands are Fitbit and Garmin, and while they have a lot in common, they also have significant differences.

The debate over the merits of Fitbit vs. Garmin will continue, but to be honest, both are great options – each device offers excellent fitness tracking capabilities, although their approaches to it are slightly different.

In a sense, the best Fitbit models are more versatile fitness trackers, ideal for counting calories and monitoring activity, supported by the excellent Fitbit Premium service. While Garmin is certainly aimed at making you more competitive, improving your running times or ensuring proper recovery.

Here we'll help you determine which brand (and possibly model) is best for you.

Fitbit vs. Garmin: Models, Pricing, and Availability

Fitbit was acquired by Google a while back, but instead of integrating Wear OS functionality into Fitbit's line of smartwatches, Google scrapped the idea entirely.

This has meant that Fitbit devices now come in a limited number of formats, but the choice has become much simpler. At the time of writing, the Fitbit Versa and Sense lines are still available, but the company has acknowledged that they won’t be around for long. In fact, many of their best features, like the daily fitness score, are moving to Google’s Pixel Watch line.

The Fitbit Charge 6 and Fitbit Inspire 3 are still on sale, priced at $130/£120 and $79/£69 respectively. Both have AMOLED displays and slim designs that make them comfortable to wear, while the Charge 6 offers twice as many workout modes as the Inspire 3, with 20. The Charge also has an ECG app, an EDA sensor for stress tracking, and built-in GPS, which helps justify the higher price.
