Sperm have a big job to do, but their time is limited. From the moment they are formed in the testicles until they can navigate their way through the complex female reproductive tract, their internal clock starts ticking.

So how long can human sperm exist to complete this journey?

The answer depends on the location of the sperm and factors such as temperature, humidity and activity level. For example, from the testicles they travel up a narrow spiral channel known as the epididymis for 10 days until they reach a reservoir at the end where they wait to be ejaculated.
