An eight-year-old boy underwent emergency surgery in Ibiza and was airlifted to hospital in the Majorcan capital after falling from a balcony in San Antonio.
A British boy is in intensive care at a hospital in Majorca after falling from the third floor of his aparthotel in Ibiza.
The eight-year-old child fell from the balcony of the Vibra Bay aparthotel in the resort of San Antonio in an accident. He was first rushed to a private clinic in Ibiza Town where he underwent emergency surgery and was then airlifted to Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital of Palma. Local sources say the transfer was necessary due to the lack of an intensive care unit for children in Ibiza, as the child needed urgent care after sustaining multiple serious injuries.
The boy is said to have suffered a severe head injury, a fractured skull, swelling of the brain, as well as chest injuries and a broken jaw. The alert was raised shortly before 8.30pm yesterday.
A Civil Guard source said the incident was still under investigation but was currently being treated as an accident, which is believed to have happened while the injured boy was playing on a balcony. The boy's alleged mishap came just days after another British tourist was injured in a separate incident at a different Spanish hotel.
A 24-year-old man was seriously injured after falling from the window of his hotel in Puerto Banus, near Marbella on the Costa del Sol, early on Sunday.
He was staying in a ground-floor room with friends who were reportedly asleep when he fell. He is also believed to have been drinking heavily before collapsing onto the street below the Hard Rock Hotel. He fell the equivalent of three stories and was taken to hospital.
He is currently a patient at the Regional University Hospital of Malaga. The incident occurred the day after Irish tourists were injured in an accident on a golf course near Marbella.
Two Irish holidaymakers were injured on Saturday when they fell from their buggy on a golf course near Marbella. One of the men had to be airlifted to hospital after he crashed through a safety barrier around the green near the 18th tee at Santa Clara Golf Club and fell about 23 feet.
The investigation into the near-tragedy continues.
