A security guard at a kindergarten killed a snake that bit her on the big toe – before she cycled to hospital for anti-venom.

The security guard, who chose not to reveal her name, recorded a video showing the dead coral snake after arriving at a hospital in Jaraguá do Sul so doctors could determine what antidote it needed. She had just arrived for work on the morning of March 7, wearing flip-flops, when the snake bit her. She explained that she killed the snake because she was afraid it could harm children. Despite already vomiting and feeling dizzy from the venom, she got on her bike and headed to the nearest hospital, carrying the dead snake with her. Upon arrival at the hospital, she was admitted in serious condition.

She has since fully recovered and been discharged. The woman told local media: “The snake crawled into the kindergarten. I was afraid it would hide in the place where the children play and bite them.”

Biologist Gilberto Ademar Duve from the Jaraguaense Ecological Foundation (Fujima) noted that in such situations it is recommended to call emergency services such as Fujima or the fire department to avoid accidents.

Under Brazilian law, killing wild animals, including snakes, is illegal and considered an environmental offense. It is unclear whether the guard will face any legal consequences for killing the snake.

Coral snakes are a large group of reptiles consisting of 27 species of Old World coral snakes and 83 species of New World coral snakes. All New World coral snakes are venomous, but only a few can be deadly.

Earlier this month, dramatic footage captured the moment a man was left in excruciating pain after being bitten on the penis by a snake. The victim was seen sitting on the ground in a forest, in pain as the large reptile gnawed at his groin area through his trousers.

The friend helped the man by inserting a stick into the snake's mouth and pouring water on it, but the reptile refused to move. The man held one hand behind the snake's head and the other behind the large reptile's body.

At one point, the snake appeared to twitch, causing the man to cry out in pain again. The footage was taken in the Pantanal, west of Brasilia, Brazil, which includes the world's largest flooded grasslands and tropical wetlands.

One person remarked, “Who's going to suck out the venom?” Another added, “That was painful to watch, and I'm not even a guy.” Renata joked, “That's probably a snake eating eggs.” Jose remarked, “That's a snake swallowing another snake right there.”

Rafael added: “If it is a black mamba, the chances of survival are slim. Especially in that area, castration for sure.” Reports mention that the man was taken to hospital for treatment after the snake eventually released its grip on his nether regions. There were no further updates on his condition.

In 2020, a teenager was taken to hospital after a snake bit him on the penis while he was sitting on the toilet. Siraphop Masukarat went to the toilet when he felt a sudden burning pain in his private area.
