An experimental non-hormonal birth control pill for men has just completed its first safety trials in humans.

The study involved 16 volunteers and its main aim was to test whether the drug reached sufficient levels in the body and whether it caused serious side effects such as changes in heart rate, hormonal function, inflammation, mood or sexual function.

No serious side effects were observed at all doses tested. This positive result opens the door to larger trials to evaluate both the safety and effectiveness of the drug.
