We spend a significant portion of our lives asleep. This may seem like an evolutionary disadvantage, since sleep leaves us motionless and potentially susceptible to attack for hours at a time — but research shows that we have many important physiological processes that depend on sleep, and sleep disturbances are associated with a variety of health problems, including an increased risk of death.
In addition, we often dream while we sleep. Thus, sleep provides us with experiences that we do not have access to while awake.
Test your knowledge of sleep science and the dreams we experience while we sleep in the quiz below. Be sure to sign in so your score appears on the leaderboard; hints are available if you click the yellow button, and let us know your score in the comments.
