A man who ventured into the woods to look for wild mushrooms to cook for his tea was left confused after he discovered something very different.
A man’s quest for wild mushrooms in the forest took a chilling turn when he stumbled upon an eerie sight among the trees.
The Brit’s search for extra ingredients for his evening meal was abruptly halted when he discovered an abandoned car, a scene he captured in a photograph and shared on Reddit. “An abandoned car I stumbled across in the woods whilst looking for mushrooms,” he wrote in the CasualUK subreddit.
He added, with a touch of humour: “I did look inside to see if there was the remains of a corpse but alas, not this time.” The post displayed the blue vehicle, overturned, rusting and covered in shrubs.
The snap sparked speculation among other Reddit users about how it ended up there and debates over the car model. Meanwhile one person user responded with a jest, implying the man might have been hunting for hallucinogenic fungi: “Enjoy your trip?”
“It was a nice walk in the woods,” he retorted. “Didn’t find anything though, and the weather was a bit on and off. A few inedible ones but that was about it.”

Defending himself, the man clarified: “I wasn’t looking for that type of mushroom. I’m interested in ones you can actually eat. Also not to be that guy but you realise that is the only fungus species that is illegal to intentionally pick in the UK, right?”
Offering a theory as to how the car came to be there, another person reminisced: “Remember when joyriding was huge? Swear you used to see burnt out or smashed up cars in fields, woods, parks, all sorts of places in the 90s.”
A third compared the car to the Flying Ford Anglia from the Harry Potter series, joking: “Looks like Harry and Weasley crash landed. It’s Arthur Weasley’s car. Rust in peace.”
Meanwhile a fourth eagle-eyed commenter identified the model correctly – indeed a Ford – stating: “MK2 Ford Fiesta Popular” and noted, “Looks to be an early one too.” It led to another individual creating a mock advertisement for the rundown vehicle: MK2 FIESTA! RARE CLASSIC!”

Last week, it was reported that the UK has been hit by a swathe of toadstool mushrooms triggered by the ongoing wet weather. The poisonous Death Cap mushrooms, which are common in the UK, are the deadliest in the world.
In Jersey, three people have been poisoned and hospitalised after eating part of the mushroom. It has been reported that just a mouthful of the toadstool can kill. As well as Toadstools and Death Cap, there has also been a boom in other mushrooms including Dead Man’s Fingers and Octopus Stinkhorn – so proceed with caution if forgaing in the woods yourself.
