Donald Trump speech goes viral as many think he borrowed it from film

A clip of former US president Donald Trump giving a speech has resurfaced online as people think he borrowed it from a movie.

Hilarious footage of Donald Trump in 2017 has resurfaced online, as the former US president appears to ‘plagiarise’ a speech from one surprising movie.

The side-by-side video montage, originally created byThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, highlights uncanny similarities between Trump’s address and a graduation speech in the 2001 comedy Legally Blonde, starring Reese Witherspoon.

At Virginia’s Liberty University in May of that year, Trump is shown to say: “You must go forth into to the world. Passion, courage in your conviction, most importantly, be true to yourself. I did it.”

On the flipside, Elle – Witherspoon’s character in Legally Blonde – says in her speech: “We take our next steps into the world, it is with passion, courage of conviction, and most importantly, have faith in yourself. We did it.”

The clip was re-shared on X (formerly Twitter) this week, bringing attention to the alleged rip-off once again. It’s sinced garnered a staggering 10.5million views and more than 1,000 bemused comments.

Among them, one person said: “Why am I just seeing this?”, while another added: “Please say he didn’t do the bend and snap!” A third also joked: “He is legally orange.”

According to a previous Mirror report, this wasn’t the only occasion Trump had allegedly borrowed words from movies. In January 2017, he was accused of stealing lines from Batman super-villain Bane.

In The Dark Knight Rises of 2012, the masked criminal aims to take power back from Gotham City forces to ‘give it back to you… the people’.

Similarly, Trump vowed to take America back from the elites while ‘giving it back to you – the people’ when taking the oath of office.

Donald Trump’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
