Four hotel room secrets – and reason to avoid coffee in room

A former hotel housekeeper revealed the four things she would never do in a hotel room after seeing how often they’re cleaned – and people are horrified.

A former hotel maid shared the stomach-churning reason why she never drinks the coffee in her hotel room.

In a TikTok video, the woman lists items she “wouldn’t use or touch” in hotel rooms after seeing how often they’re cleaned. Firstly, she would “never, ever use” the coffee pot or glassware as she alleges the housekeepers simply wipe them down instead of replacing them each time a guest checks out.

She revealed: “Usually a housekeeper just rinses these things out in the bathroom sink and dries them off with the same rag they use to clean the rest of the room with.

“The next thing I would never use or touch in a hotel room would be the ice bucket. A lot of times, a lot of people innocently use these as water dishes for their pets but there are other times when people do much worse things to these buckets.”

She claims as soon as she enters a hotel room, she removes the bedspread as it’s teeming with germs and is only changed once a year or if there is a visible stain on it.

Echoing this, another user who purports to have worked at a hotel said: “We both can share stories because I have some scary stories.”

Another user chimed in: “My mum taught me to always bring a ziplock bag to put the remote control in. They work and you don’t have to touch it.”

A third user expressed their disdain for hotels, stating: “I hate hotels. Bring my own everything and I don’t touch anything. Whoever I’m with be like girl chill out.”

Another shared their own precautionary measures: “Thank you! I always throw the bedspread off the bed ASAP. My husband swears it’s cleaned and wants to sleep with it. It’s a fight.”

Yet, a different perspective comes from another housekeeper who insists not all hotels are the same, as the establishment she works for maintains rigorous cleaning standards.

She explained: “I worked for a major hotel chain. We changed sheets, blankets, duvets pillow cases, and protectors every day. I threw cups away. Used colour-coded rags.”
